Mid-year transfer’s

📌 What is a Mid-Year Transfer?

  • This applies to any year group from Reception to Year 6, once the child has already started at a school.
  • You can request a new school place during the academic year, outside the standard application rounds.

📝 How to Apply

  1. Download and complete the Mid-Year Application Form (includes Parts A & B for parents and Part C for the current school).
  2. Submit the form via:
    • Email to schoolsadmissions@redcar‑cleveland.gov.uk, or
    • By post to the School Admissions Team (address listed with the form).
  3. If you can’t access it, we have paper copies available in our school office or you can request a paper form from the School admissions office via email or phone.

⏱️ What to Expect

  • The Admissions Team responds within 15 school days of receiving your complete form.
  • If a place is available in your chosen school, they’ll offer it.
  • If that school is full, you’ll be informed and advised on the appeal process.

🏫 Role of Your Child’s Current School

  • You must not remove your child from their current school until a new place is confirmed.
  • Part C of the form must be completed by the current school, confirming attendance and reason for transfer.

🚚 Common Reasons & Advice

  • Usual reasons for a move include relocating home or serious issues at the school.
  • Transfers don’t automatically fix school-related problems, so it’s recommended to:
    1. Raise concerns with staff or leadership at the current school;
    2. Consider whether a different setting better meets your child’s needs.

ℹ️ If the Preferred School Has No Places

  • You’ll receive a right to appeal.
  • The process provides guidance on preparing the appeal
  • If you gave more than one preferred choice, you maybe allocated a place at one of those schools

✅ Quick Checklist for Parents

  • Download or request the Mid-Year Application Form.
  • Complete Parts A & B (parent/guardian).
  • Ask the current school to complete Part C.
  • Send the full form to the School Admissions Team.
  • Keep your child in their current school while awaiting a decision.
  • Expect a decision within 15 school days.
  • If refused, prepare and submit an appeal.
